Titchfield Brick Project

My work is inspired by the history and the people who had connections with Titchfield Abbey. There are 10 colourful imaginary figures created on the blocks, the patterns and Latin on the bricks are inspired by the medieval tile, interweaving with the figures, with the hint of the historical figures and ordinary people. The figures are faceless, it opens up the space for the viewers to imagine the figures.

The project explores the core materials of the abbey, bricks, by placing them on the ground, it highlights the co-existence of the new and the ruin. The combination of the historical reality and the creative attempt reflects the trace of time, and it invites people to look into the history and building. The figures and their attire are inspired by the canons, the earl, and the attire from the medieval period. With the still positions, the figures are frozen in time.

This project recreates the image of the historical figures, showing the past collective experience that we can view from a contemporary perspective into the history of the Titchfield Abbey.
